Saturday STEAM: Origami
October 12 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Origami is more than a means of crafting beautiful art; it also has many connections to math and related fields. Ideas from origami have helped architects build refugee shelters and helped engineers build solar panels for satellites! Join Patrick Bahl, UNCA Mathematics Professor to talk about the math and science behind origami while we learn how to make some basic origami designs of our own. All activities will be hands-on and suitable for any age!
Patrick has been a member of the UNC Asheville Mathematics faculty for the past fourteen years and the director of the university’s honors program for the past seven. In these positions, he has taught a number of courses across the curriculum, including several that combine ideas from math with other fields, like origami, poetry, and voting and elections. He is delighted to be able to dedicate his life to sharing ideas with others and continuing to grow by learning new things every day.
