Community Partner Event: Bats!

July 19, 2018 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Join Defenders of Wildlife and Bat Conservation International for an interactive, educational evening in the AMOS STEM lab! Find out which species live in our region, why they’re important, and how we’re addressing the conservation challenges they face. AMOS’ STEM lab does have a limited capacity, so participation is on a first-come-first serve basis. Program starts at 5:30.

From Defenders:

“Our very special guest presenter will be Nina Fascione, Defenders’ Vice President of Philanthropy and former Executive Director of Bat Conservation International.

At the workshop, you’ll get a chance to build a bat box that will be installed on the campus of New Belgium Brewing Company on the banks of the French Broad River. It’s a great bat habitat and your box will provide a home for some of NC’s native bats!

And then come see the bats for yourself on Saturday evening, July 21st, at Defender’s Walkabout. The Walkabout will occur from 8pm-10pm at Sandy Bottom Preserve (Parkway Crescent, Arden NC 28704).

Because bats are nocturnal, our walkabout will start just before dusk, when bats become active and will include the identification of other nocturnal creatures like moths and other cool insects. It will be the start of National Moth Week, so we hope to raise awareness of these important pollinators too.”
