This role is ideal for individuals who are interested in gaining exposure to the essential aspects of museum work that enhance visitor experience and support the museum’s daily functions. Interns will work alongside museum staff to serve the needs of communities with diverse learning perspectives, problem-solve to ensure the museum’s exhibits are well-maintained and meet others in the field to forge connections for the future.
Interns will have opportunities for observational learning in exhibit design, patron engagement, and collections care.
The Exhibits Intern will:
- Gain practical experience in museum operations, including exhibit maintenance and community engagement.
- Develop an understanding of museum fabrication practices, including accessibility and safety.
- Learn how to communicate with our wide museum audience- which includes children, adults, and our community experts and partners.
- Learn how behind-the-scenes operations contribute to visitor experience and museum sustainability.
- Establish connections within the museum community and gain professional references.
- Observe and learn about various aspects of museum management, including exhibit care, collections, and administration.

Desired Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow cleaning and maintenance protocols.
- Ability to multi-task in fast-paced settings.
- Interest in museum studies, exhibit fabrication, or STEAM disciplines.
- Ability to take direction and work both collaboratively and independently.
- No prior experience required—but an eagerness to gain knowledge on design and hand tools are encouraged.

The expected time commitment is flexible, ranging from 5-15 hours a week.
