SUMMARY:Sonic Sensation
DESCRIPTION:The Asheville Museum of Science presents Sonic Sensation\, developed by Sciencenter (Ithaca\, NY). On view at AMOS May-early September\, 2026.   \nCome experience our sonic world to closely examine the ways we perceive sound\, the physics of hearing\, and how to tinker with decibels\, amplitude\, frequency and sound waves to make your own unique beeps and boops.  \nMake a movie soundtrack\, match sounds\, shriek louder than a howler monkey in the Scream Chamber! Try to distinguish between high and low pitches\, make music through dance moves\, launch sound waves through an ear drum\, and send some seriously sonic signals direct to your brain.   \nSonic Sensation presents a fun and lively opportunity to explore the science of sound in our daily lives.

SUMMARY:Measurement Rules!
DESCRIPTION:A FEATURED EXHIBITION FROM CHILDREN’S MUSEUM OF PITTSBURGH  \nThe Asheville Museum of Science presents Measurement Rules\, developed by Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh (Pittsburgh\, PA). On view September 23rd-January 10th\, 2027.  \nMeasurement is an essential part of our lives\, but not always easy to understand. Gauge height\, distance\, volume and more in Measurement Rules\, an interactive exhibit that introduces visitors to various units of measurement. Master the basics and then begin to compare\, classify and categorize different ways to measure using traditional—and not-so-traditional—tools. Hands-on experiences allow visitors to understand measurement in relation to the world around them\, collaborate with others and become confident in the language of measurement. In this exhibit\, visitors can:  \n\nStep on the Chicken Scale to see how many chickens they weigh! \n\n\nCount Five Mississippi’s and see how close they can get to doing it in five actual seconds. \n\n\nMeasure balls of different sizes using tools such as rulers\, calipers\, and gauges. Sort the balls into the shoots to test their measurements. \n\n\nUse the cubic blocks to build animals at the Block Table. Visitors can guess how many one inch blocks they used to build their animal and then count to see if their guess was right. The number of one inch blocks used equals the animal’s volume!
