Think asteroids and meteorites are a serious threat? You should learn about the growing amount of human made Space Junk that not litters near earth orbits, it is traveling up to 22,000 miles an hour in a beehive of potential collisions.  This debris has become a threat to all spacecraft in Earth orbit.
